Following confirmation from Fernie Alpine Resort (FAR), Snakebite and Verboten are to be closed for the remainder of the season.
“This is a complex matter that we are committed to working through with the various organizations involved. We ask for your patience while we do that,” said Mark Ormandy of Fernie Alpine Resort.
This news follows two on-trail incidents and subsequent Search and Rescue (SAR) evacuations this summer.
The Fernie Trails Alliance (FTA) have been in communications with FAR throughout and are dedicated to working with them and supporting their decision. The FTA recognises both the importance of these trails to the Fernie trail network, and the importance of the safety of all trail users.
Both trails remain marked as “closed” on Trailforks, and there is clear on-trail signage at the top and bottom of both trails. Both FAR and the FTA ask all types of trail users to respect these closures.
