Trail Crew Report Aug 27th: Last week the trail crew finished the Sherwoody re-route, reworked Today’s Special traverse, and updated trail signage with fresh boot brushes.

This week the trail crew will be shifting gears to work on local hiking trails, including Mt. Proctor and Heiko’s trail. Not without some mountain bike trails too, the crew will be brush-cutting and tuning up 6 Mores Days.

The Thursday Night Work Party will take place on 6 More Days at 6pm! Meet at the Castle Mountain Parking lot along Coal Creek/River Road. With the days getting shorter, the trail crew will be leaving sharp. See you then!

Meet the Trail Crew: Nik Dunn Born and raised Fer

Meet the Trail Crew: Nik Dunn

Born and raised Fernie local, Nik Dunn, has been an integral part of Trail Development in Fernie for nearly half a decade. After 4-years working for Fernie Alpine Resort, Nik is now one of five key trail members on this year’s trail crew.

Helping to improve trail quality and adding new trails, Nik pulls inspiration from coastal trail networks and interior riding zones, including Revelstoke and Castleguard.

Some of Nik’s favourite trails and places to ride include: “Boondocker in Revy, Old Rio in Kamloops, and Patch Works at Mt. Prevost.”

Look for Nik out on the trails with either a shovel (and chainsaw) or on two wheels!

Trail Crew Report Aug 19th: Last week the trail crew installed 6-new bridges off the start of Old Goat. Improving trail quality and accessibility.

This week the trail crew will be finishing the sherwoody re-route, re-working the Today’s Special traverse, and updating trail signage.

The Thursday Night Work Party will take place in the Provincial Park with continued work on Gorby bridges and general repair. Meet at the Gorby parking lot at 6pm. See you there!

Trail Crew Report Aug 12th: Last week the trail crew wrapped up brush cut work on Yeddy and Kush. Helping to improve sightlines and widen sections of trail.

This week the trail crew is completing bridge work on Old Goat. Adding Fresh planks and wider bridges to help improve trail quality and flow.

The Thursday Night Work Party will take place in the Provincial Park. Meet at the Gorby parking lot at 6pm. To work on either lower Verboten or New Goat. See you there!

It’s a Little Critters Criterium week! These fu

It’s a Little Critters Criterium week!

These fun kids races are criterium style, where you complete as many laps of the circuit in the allotted time (~30 minutes). The emphasis is on fun and there will be prizes for everyone! Please bring 2 TOYS you no longer use or want as a donation to the prize table.

Join us this week on August 14th at Maiden Lake. Sign in at 5:30pm and racing starts at 5:45pm.

Recommended for ages 2-8. Strider bikes are welcome.

Thanks for keeping the stoke high and the trail safe!

Trail Closure Notice: Handshake Holdings is plann

Trail Closure Notice:

Handshake Holdings is planning to continue the preliminary construction work in
accordance with the re-zoning of the Galloway Lands starting in August and continuing through
October.

The new closures are at the following locations:
Boom Creek / Ski Hill Connector junction
Snow Pines Road / Boomerang Connector junction
Boom Creek / Galloway Loop junction
Ben Emmett / Galloway Loop junction

These closures are temporary for road and lot preparation and will re-open when completed and safe to do so. The Galloway loop and FAR connectors will be back in the fall for Nordic trail preparations. Access from the Nordic Centre to FAR will be available via Ben Emmett or View Trail.

"Private Property" signage was installed at all access points to the property. Please respect these closures.

Trail Crew Report July Aug 6th: Last week the trai

Trail Crew Report July Aug 6th: Last week the trail crew was dispersed throughout the Fernie Trail Network completing tread repairs and brush cut work.

With the help of all the volunteers, the trail crew finished up work on the new Eric’s Trip Wall Ride. Check it out while it’s fresh! We would like to acknowledge Recreation Sites and Trails BC and the Ktunaxa First Nations for allowing us access and to work on the land.

This week the trail crew will be brush-cutting Yeddy and Kush.

The Thursday Night Work Party will take place on Old Goat to work on bridge reconstruction from 6pm - 8pm. Meet at the Gorby parking lot; hope to see you there!

REMINDER: we appreciate assistance with deadfall and blowdown clearing, but please DO NOT make alterations to the trail tread without approval (ex. removal of roots). Thank you.
