🚨 Winter grooming signage has recently gone up 🚨 Thanks to @tourismfernie for guiding us in keeping the trails in best shape possible.

Tomorrow evening at 6pm (January 6), Handshake Holdings Inc. is hosting a virtual open house regarding a development proposal for the Galloway Lands. The Fernie Trails Alliance currently manages the multi-use trails on this land (including Ben Emmett, Galloway, Stumpy Wood, Happy Gilmar, Black Forest trails). As a representative of trail users with a mandate to 'build, maintain and enhance' trails in the Fernie area, we will continue to advocate and maintain a relationship with the owner of this land should it change hands.

This past summer, members of the FTA met with the developer to learn about this proposal, and it was decided any further work or decisions would be made once the application process and decision with the RDEK (Regional District of East Kootenay) was complete.

🙏 Big thanks to all the volunteers that have be

🙏 Big thanks to all the volunteers that have been busy clearing blowdown from the trails following the storm earlier in the month. Unfortunately several trails in the Fernie Ridge, Coal Creek, Castle Mountain and Morrissey areas have been severely impacted (ex: CDT, TR3, Contra, CCHT, Roots, Snoop Lion and Smooth Salamander). Flooding has caused bridges to be damaged or destroyed,banks to slump, ripped culverts out, made extensive ruts, etc.

FTA crews have been assessing trails for damage and have observed significant issues across the entire network. We will be planning the repairs and looking for funding over the winter, with the aim of starting strong on the repairs in the spring.

The impact to the trails is pretty massive, but for now our thoughts go out to those whos homes and livelihoods were affected by the flooding, both locally and Provincially.
