Elk Valley Community Trail Update

Once again, it’s great to see the progress that’s happening on the Trans Canada Trail all the way from Round Prairie (just north of Elkford) to Elko. What a great collaboration of the communities in the Elk Valley! Here are some of the highlights, broken down by sections.

Round Prairie to Elkford

Hiking Trail Maintenance

The crew has been busy this summer tuning up the hiking trails. Here a few of the highlights: 

- Brushing completed on Woody and Happy Gilmar

- Downed trees removed and light brushing to Lizard Lake

- Mt. Fernie to summit bench, downed trees removed, brushing and regrading done from first right hand switch to forested ridge

- South Proctor cleared to first sub summit

Lazy Lizard Connector Completed

 

The Connector from Stove Trail across Mount Fernie Park to Lazy Lizard Trail is complete! This 10 kilometer trail allows you to avoid riding the road. It can be used when returning from Brokeback, Hedonism, and Lazy Lizard. 

The Fairy Creek Bike Bridge has lifted off

Over a year of planning and funding work is finally coming together as the final structure for the Fairy Creek Bridge was lifted into place on June 15th. The initial plans for this project go back nearly 10 years.

The Trail Fest is back with crazy events for the whole family, catered lunches and guided hike & bike trips. Stayed tuned for more details.

 

Kush sign post re-installed by Thursday night work party

Volunteers were busy last week working on Kush and Kushier. They are now ready to ride. Kushiest will be finished at this week's work party on Thursday, May 12th. Meet at the bike park at the Aquatic Centre at 6pm to help finish it off.

 

 

Jemi Fibre Logging Upate

Please see the attached map for logging plans along River Road Extension in the Three Kings area. Jemi will be working to respect the trails as much as possible.
